GB-38-03-001 · Upper bound of a product

A rectangle has measured sides 40 cm and 37 cm, each correct to the nearest centimetre. Calculate the upper bound of its area.

Bounds: Calculating Upper Bound of a Product Booklet p. 64 & p. 65
Method
1) Find LB and UB of each measurement
2) From Bounds table: for multiplication, overall UB = UB × UB
Worked Example (GB-38-03-001)
From Bounds Table (p. 65): For Multiplication, UB=UB×UB\mathbf{UB = UB \times UB}
1) Upper side bounds 40.5 and 37.5.
2) 1518.75 cm²
