GB-23-02-001 · Gradient between points

Find the gradient of the line through (−10,39)(-10,39) and (−7,24)(-7,24).

Coordinate Geometry: Gradient of a Line Booklet p. 80
Method
1) Label points (x₁, y₁) and (x₂, y₂)
2) Use m = (y₂ − y₁) / (x₂ − x₁)
Worked Example (GB-23-02-001)
x1y1x_1 \quad y_1 (−10,  39)(-10,\; 39) and x2y2x_2 \quad y_2 (−7,  24)(-7,\; 24)
m=y2−y1x2−x1=24−(39)−7−(−10)=−153m = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1} = \frac{24 - (39)}{-7 - (-10)} = \frac{-15}{3}
